Works Manager – Fabrication

ROLE

We are looking for an experienced Works Manager to run our Fabrication Facility that delivers structural steel and pipework projects. With a background in engineering, the successful applicant will take full responsibility for operations, managing staff and successful provision of projects nationwide.

Based at our Head Office facility in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, they will have demonstrable experience in a similar role. This position also requires management of on-site project delivery and installation in collaboration with our project teams.

Working closely with the management team the successful applicant will help maintain and develop business relationships with clients, designers, and sub-contractors. They will also assist in the pre-construction and estimating phases of projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Managing a busy Fabrication Facility, the successful candidate will be responsible for the effective management of their team and delivery of multiple concurrent projects nationwide.

Key responsibilities for this position include:

  1. Ensuring that each project meets its targets in terms of quality & customer satisfaction.
  2. Organising & taking a leading role with fabrication projects.
  3. Planning, allocation & supervision of workforce to execute works in accordance with project programme.
  4. Management & monitoring works to ensure compliance with client’s specifications.
  5. Liaising with internal & external client operation staff ensuring works are undertaken & delivered to everyone’s satisfaction.
  6. Maintaining records / diaries & actively supporting resolution of all departmental issues.
  7. Delivering excellent customer service & seeking ways for continuous improvement.
  1. Production of detailed daily fabrication diaries.
  2. Implementing a positive Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) regime at all times.
  3. Delivering HS&E toolbox talks in collaboration with our HS&E Manager.
  4. Building positive & productive working relationships with clients.
  5. Checking Quality, Health & Safety standards & implementing corrective action where required.
  6. Leading, managing & motivating team members to achieve predetermined goals & targets.
  7. Ensuring a high standard of housekeeping is maintained at works facility.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

With a background in engineering and experience in Works Management, the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, experience, and qualifications:

  1. Minimum of HNC / HND in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  2. CSCS Qualification or similar in Slinging / Signaler.
  3. At least 5 years’ experience of working in an engineering role.
  4. Experience in project engineering & the management of design.
  5. Demonstrable management experience in both Steel & Pipe Fabrication.
  6. A successful track record of delivering projects on time & to budget, whilst meeting the customer’s technical expectations.
  7. Knowledge & experience of working to ISO 3834 Welding Quality & BS EN 1090 Factory Production Control management systems.
  8. Experience of working to ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
  1. Experience & ability in reading & reviewing piping, structural & civil drawings.
  2. Proven track record in completing risk assessments & writing method statements.
  3. Experience & ability of completing site surveys, with accurate measurements & drawings.
  4. Experience & ability of planning lifting operations of heavy steel & pipe.
  5. Computer literate
  6. A working knowledge of project management tools such as Microsoft Project is desirable.
