As part of our commitment to reducing waste and supporting our local community, Rayden Engineering Ltd (REL) has donated reclaimed wood from our Ilkeston headquarters to local groups preparing for their charity Bonfire Night Celebration events on 5th November.

Rather than sending surplus and leftover timber from our Ilkeston headquarters and project sites to waste disposal, our team carefully set aside suitable safe materials that could be repurposed. This reclaimed wood – typically offcuts and unused sections from ongoing works – was collected specifically for community use.

The effort was coordinated by our Environmental Manager, Craig DaSilva, who has been developing new ways for REL to reuse resources responsibly and create positive community value wherever possible.

A MESSAGE FROM ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGER CRAIG DASILVA

Reflecting on the initiative, Craig highlighted how small, practical actions can create real value for local communities:

“We’re always looking for simple, practical ways to reduce waste while supporting the communities around us. Donating surplus timber for local bonfire events makes sense on every level – it avoids unnecessary disposal, helps community groups with their fundraising, and strengthens our links with the people who live and work near our sites.”

SUPPORTING LOCAL COMMUNITY GROUPS

Large Crowd watching bonfire burn on 5th NovemberThe reclaimed wood was collected by several Ilkeston-based community organisations to help them deliver their annual charity bonfire events. These organised celebrations play an important role in bringing local people together, raising funds for good causes and providing a safe alternative to ad-hoc bonfires.

This simple initiative reflects our broader commitment to:

  • Reducing waste and improving resource efficiency
  • Supporting local charities and grassroots community groups
  • Championing practical, environmentally conscious solutions
  • Strengthening relationships with the communities around our operations

CONTINUING OUR LOCAL IMPACT

We’re proud to support local groups in meaningful, practical ways. Initiatives like this help us operate more sustainably while contributing positively to the communities we’re part of.

We’ll continue looking for opportunities to donate surplus materials, support local causes and deepen our community connections through responsible, collaborative action.

If you’re part of a local organisation or community group and would like to explore future collaboration opportunities with REL, we’d be pleased to hear from you.
