ISO 45001 is the leading global standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OHSMS), designed to help organisations create safer work environments by proactively identifying and mitigating risks.

This standard, which replaced ISO 18001 in 2021, is now widely recognised across industries as a benchmark for improving workplace safety and reducing incidents.

ISO 45001 provides a comprehensive framework for organisations to establish, implement, and maintain an effective system for managing risks and improving workplace safety.

The primary goal of the standard is to prevent work-related injuries, illnesses, and fatalities, ultimately fostering a safe and healthy workplace environment.

KEY ELEMENTS OF ISO 45001

ISO 45001 helps our business implement and embed best practices in several critical areas:

  1. Risk Management: Proactively identifies and controls potential workplace hazards to prevent accidents, injuries, and long-term health issues.
  2. Worker Safety: Ensures safer working conditions through hazard elimination and continuous focus on employee health and well-being.
  3. Leadership & Worker Participation: Highlights the critical role of top management in fostering a culture of safety, while encouraging active participation from all employees to improve safety practices.
  4. Compliance with Legal Requirements: Helps ensure compliance with all industry-specific legal regulations related to occupational health and safety, reducing the risk of penalties and non-compliance.
  1. Continuous Improvement: Utilises the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle to constantly assess and improve safety procedures and protocols.
  2. Prevention Over Reaction: Focuses on a proactive approach to prevent accidents and incidents rather than reacting after they occur.
  3. Integration with Other Systems: Forms a crucial part of our Integrated Management System, which includes certifications for ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environment), ISO 3834 (Welding), and BS EN 1090 (Production Control).

In essence, ISO 45001 is designed to help businesses create a safe and healthy work environment, reduce accidents, and ensure compliance with regulations, ultimately leading to improved performance and morale.
