This marks our 12th consecutive year of successful verification, reinforcing our reputation as a trusted and proven service provider to the UK utilities sector.
ABOUT ACHILLES UVDB VERIFY
Launched in 1996, Achilles UVDB is the leading pre-qualification and supplier assurance system for the UK’s regulated utilities sector (including gas, water and energy). With more than 68 buying organisations and over 6,200 qualified suppliers, the scheme helps utilities source safe, compliant and technically capable contractors. The Achilles Verify process is widely used across these sectors to assess supplier capability, compliance and competence.
UVDB is a community-driven platform built around stringent Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) requirements, alongside broader Sustainability, Social and Governance expectations. It enables buyers to benchmark suppliers against recognised industry standards, ensuring only those operating safely and responsibly are approved to deliver works.
CATEGORY B2 SUPPLIER REQUIREMENTS
As a Category B2 supplier, REL undergoes a rigorous two-part assessment each year. B2 audits apply to suppliers delivering works on live and operational utility environments and combine a detailed review of company management systems with an on-site inspection of working practices. This ensures a thorough and independent validation of our capability, compliance and competence when delivering works across the utilities sector.
We’re proud to report another year of near-perfect scores across all core areas, reflecting our ongoing commitment to high standards, robust processes and safe working practices throughout the business.
OUTSTANDING RESULTS ACROSS MSE & SITE AUDITS
Having been a registered UVDB Verify supplier for over a decade (Achilles ID: 00020953), REL continues to demonstrate consistently high standards in Safety, Health, Environmental, Quality and sustainability performance.
This year’s audit took place over two days in September and included a detailed Management System Evaluation (MSE) at our Ilkeston head office, followed by a site assessment within our fabrication workshop to verify our processes in a live operational setting.
Our Quality & Compliance Director, Sam Kelly, Health & Safety Manager, Andrew Parsons, and Environmental Manager, Craig Dasilva, led the audit preparation and assessment process, ensuring strong collaboration and a well-coordinated approach throughout.
Our 2025 audit once again delivered near-perfect results across all core disciplines:
Management System Evaluation (MSE):
- Health & Safety: 99%
- Environmental: 100%
- Quality: 98%
- Sustainability: 100%
Site Assessment (Fabrication Workshop):
- 100% achieved across all four disciplines (SHEQ & Sustainability)
Achieving such consistently high scores across the audit highlights the strength of our systems and the professionalism of our team. We are immensely proud of the results we’ve achieved.
Although the results were exceptional, only a marginal uplift is needed to reach full marks. As part of our ongoing commitment to continual improvement, we’re already taking steps to ensure we achieve 100% across every discipline next year.
Our results are now published on the Achilles UVDB platform and visible to authorised buyers across the utilities sector.
NEW FOR 2025: ACHILLES SUSTAINABILITY SCORE
This year, Achilles introduced a new Sustainability Score, designed to benchmark suppliers across four pillars of responsible business practice: Environment, Social, Governance and Financial.
The scoring methodology has been developed by Achilles’ data scientists and tested across more than 50,000 suppliers, giving buyers a consistent and reliable way to assess sustainability performance across the network.
REL achieved an overall score of 74, placing us firmly within the Good category and above the Achilles network average. We are only a few points below the 80+ “Excellent” threshold, which represents the top 85% of suppliers across Achilles’ networks – a target we aim to reach over the coming year.
This score reflects the progress we are making in strengthening sustainable working practices across the company and provides clear insights to guide further improvements as we continue to develop in this area.
